Our Mission
We Support Candidates for the Priesthood
We help seminarians and priests from all over the world, especially those studying at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome. They come primarily from various dioceses in Africa, Asia, or Latin America, but also from Central and Eastern European countries.
In 1991, the association Priesterausbildungshilfe e.V., based in Cologne, was founded. Joachim Cardinal Meisner served as its first patron.
The Church needs well-trained priests for their service to the people and for the New Evangelization.
To contribute to this mission in the spirit of the 1990 Synod of Bishops (“The Formation of Priests in the Circumstances of the Present Day”) and of Saint Pope John Paul II (Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Pastores dabo vobis, 1992), Priesterausbildungshilfe was established in 1991.
Prayers
“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore, ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.”
Luke 10:20
Vocations to the priesthood cannot be manufactured; they are always a gift from God.
Priests, in their vocation, are exposed to many temptations—both external and internal. Just as priests bring people and their intentions before God, so too can we pray for them and for their faithfulness to the Lord.

Our Motivation
“Good priestly formation is the be-all and end-all for the future of faith and the Church,” says Archbishop Dr. Georg Gänswein. And with this, he explains our motivation to support priestly formation specifically at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome.
The University of the Holy Cross not only passes on to its students what the Church teaches, but also why the Church teaches it. It is not bound to any particular theological school but promotes academic freedom. At the same time, the studies deepen the understanding of societal developments in our world, in order to shape them more effectively in the spirit of the Gospel.
